DocPerRow

One Word document for every row of your spreadsheet

Word for the web has no mail merge, and desktop Word puts everything into one long file. Drop in a sheet and a .docx template and get a ZIP with a separate, properly named document for each row.

How it works

  1. Write a template

In Word, type {Name}, {Date} or any column name where the value should go. Fonts, logos and layout stay as you made them.

  2. Add your spreadsheet

The first filled row holds the column names. Excel, CSV and OpenDocument files work, including Google Sheets downloads.

  3. Download the ZIP

Each row becomes its own .docx, named from the columns you choose, such as “Olivia Bennett - certificate.docx”.

Questions

Can you do a mail merge in Word for the web?

No. Word for the web cannot run a mail merge or edit mail merge settings; Microsoft keeps that feature in the desktop app. DocPerRow does the merge in your browser instead, so you can use it from any computer.

How do I save each mail merge record as a separate Word file?

Desktop Word merges into one combined document; splitting it into one file per record needs a macro or an add-in. Here every row is saved as its own .docx straight away, and you choose how the files are named.

Can I get PDF files?

The web tool creates .docx files today. To get PDFs, open a file in Word and choose Save as PDF. The Excel and Word add-in will export PDFs directly; join the waitlist to hear when it launches.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The spreadsheet and the template are read and processed in your browser. They are not sent to a server. Only the waitlist email, if you choose to leave it, is stored.

How do I mark where the values go?

Type the column name in curly brackets, for example {Name} or {Start date}. Capital letters and extra spaces do not matter. You can keep any formatting around the field.

How are dates shown?

You choose the date format before creating the files: as shown in Excel, 31.12.2026, 31/12/2026, 12/31/2026 and other styles.

Is DocPerRow made by Microsoft?

No. It is an independent tool. Microsoft, Excel and Word are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
